Solone

Broadstrand Bay Beach County Cork V McGarvey - CC-by-2024

"I don't know how long I can stay everyone knows each other."

A Christmas Party, to dip my toe into, but my sock is still on.
The water is choppy, and those creatures can swim better together than one.
I gaze around for a familiar face to help me to take the plunge,
All heavy in conversation I remain solone.

At last, they arrive, to help my buoyancy, in the crammed ocean, with the challenging tide.
I am with them but also apart, they are truly together and buoyancy-armed.
Their homogenous outfits float, riding on the crest,
Mine is heavily impractical setting me adrift.
Indisputable politeness, as they easily circumnavigate the bay,
My audio limitation makes it impossible to follow their way.

Paddling hard I follow my affable companions with their watery glide.
Brightly bobbing they effortlessly attract their joyful comrades and smiles.
I try graciously to integrate despite feeling soaked by the turns.
With the busy chirping back drop, my hearing adjourns.

Despite receptive encounters, all amiably attentive, they are not my tribe.
A companion is missing, to fill in the blanks my ears cannot subscribe.
The festive spirit flows, washing over all at the scene.
I scramble for the shore (door) hoping to be unseen.

Eager for peaceful warmth, I head home solone.
