Ode to Bagels and Beans

I am not one to do solicitous advertising of chains, but for once I will make an exception, as this place does not feel like a chain. Well technically speaking it is a franchise. Founded in 1996 by Ronald Bakker and Ninande Thio, the first branch was on Ferdinand Bolstraat in Amsterdam, about a 15-minute walk south of Museumplein. There are about 81 branches, all franchises (Wikipedia ). No issues about contravening the trade description here, it does exactly what the name says, sells a great variety of bagels, with a choice of cream cheese, and filling, with lots of beverages, including coffee with a choice of 13 different types. Despite being a franchise it has an independent cafe feel, cosy with lots of wood. Here is a link to its glorious menu English Menu. To wet your appetite my choice here was a Wholemeal Bagel, Walnut Cream Cheese, Avocado Tomato, and Lettuce, I had this with a lovely Americano Coffee, all served on Dudson Tableware. Dudson was a Stoke-on-Trent pottery tableware manufacturer that collapsed in 2019 after nearly 200 years of business. Being a member of the pottery turnover club, you become an honorary member by living or being born in Stoke-on-Trent (we like to still think it is the world capital of ceramics) finding the place of the manufacturer is a necessary occupation, by looking under a plate, a Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer is a great boon. This Bagels and Beans is on  De Clercqstraat in Amsterdam, there are 22 branches in the City, so you don't have to walk far to find one, and walking anywhere in Amsterdam is no chore, especially in pursuit of a good bagel.
